New app to enable Dubai start-ups via phone

Dubai?s Department of Economic Development DED has unveiled an application that will allow for business registration and licensing via smartphones.

The app, which in its first phase will be available for use on Apple iPhone, will mean businesses and investors can conduct a range of transactions on the move, including trade name reservation, renewal of licenses, enquiry about fines, as well as company look up.

The initiative is part of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum?s recently announced m-government scheme, which aims to move UAE municipal services online.

The DED app is available to download free at the Apple Store from Monday. “The e-services launched from time to time by the Department of Economic Development have significantly improved the ease of doing business in Dubai.

We are keen to support the Mobile Government initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum as it will add to overall competitiveness in Dubai and the UAE and will allow us to showcase our alignment with the future,” said Sami Al Qamzi, director general of DED.
