Dubai visitor charged with smuggling heroin

A visitor claimed in court on Monday that he was not aware of the nature of the contents of 62 capsules that he smuggled in his intestines when he came to Dubai.

Customs inspectors stopped the 24-year-old Afghan visitor, A.F., with heroin capsules hidden in his intestines when he arrived at Dubai International Airport in October 2014.

Prosecutors charged the defendant with smuggling and possessing 477g of heroin with the intent to promote the drug in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the Dubai Court of First Instance?s presiding judge Urfan Omar dropped the promotional intent and modified the accusation to smuggling and possessing drugs without intent.
