American jailed for importing Tramadol into Dubai

An American salesman who confessed to importing 270 Tramadol capsules into the country was convicted by the Dubai Criminal Court of importing drugs and sentenced to a year in jail.G N, 30, told the judge he imported the capsules for medical reasons, although he did not specify the nature of his condition.Prosecutors charged him with importing 27 strips of Tramazen 50, a painkiller that contains Tramadol, for personal use.

Emirati S?A, 26, a customs inspector, testified that he was on duty when he was made aware of a suspicious package that had been sent from India.?It was my colleague J A who suspected the package when it passed through the X-ray. It contained capsules,? said S?A. ?The Ministry of Health was contacted and the package was referred to them, then it was found the capsules contained Tramadol. The recipient was contacted then and referred to police.?

G?N will be deported after serving his jail term.
